Plaster cast
Would you like a lasting memory of a special time? Those little ones grow so fast! To capture these precious moments, we create a beautiful keepsake of your child’s cute little hands or feet. We do this by making a plaster hand or foot impression. Whether you prefer us to visit your location or you’d rather come to our studio in Amsterdam, we are here for you. The process is completely safe and suitable for newborn babies, children, and adults.
How do we make a plaster hand/foot?
During the impression-making, the baby sits on the parent’s lap, who helps hold the hand/foot steady. We start by making the alginate* mix. Then the hand or foot is covered with a thick layer of alginate mix, which sets within 2-3 minutes. To maintain the shape, a layer of plaster bandage is applied, which hardens within 10 minutes. Carefully, the foot/hand is removed from the mold (alginate does not stick to the skin!). We fill the mold with extra fine and hard plaster that sets within about twenty minutes. The most exciting moment is when we gently remove the alginate, leaving a detailed plaster impression of the hand/foot.
Additional options:
We can make plaster impressions of any body part; it is not limited to just hands and feet.
Chaja specializes in special effect props and mold making – if desired, impressions can also be made in other colors and materials: from plastic (epoxy/resins) to cement and bronze (or metal lookalikes). Multiple copies can also be made. (Tip: a nice gift for the family).
